Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has reinstated Stage Three social distancing restrictions on coronavirus hotspot suburbs.

The state has seen more than two weeks of consecutive new infections and it has prompted a hard approach from the government to prevent anymore people from catching the virus.

Mr Andrews has decided to put the worst affected areas back into isolation.

If you live in the following postcodes, you won't be allowed to leave your home unless it's for a specific reason: 3012, 3021, 3032, 3038, 3042, 3046, 3047, 3055, 3060, 3064. (Specific suburbs will be listed below)

There are four reasons that you're allowed to leave, which include leaving for work or school, for care or caregiving, for daily exercise, or to get food and other essentials. That's it.

The Premier said in a press conference: "We know that suburban lockdowns, stay-at-home orders are a series of restrictions that work.

"We have all been through that journey, we have all been through that process and we know that at the end of that process we are then able to begin the process of opening up."

Gatherings will be limited to two people, with the exception of workplaces, schools, and people living in the same household.

Cafes and restaurants will have to go back to only selling takeaway food. If you have to work in an affected suburb or you have to provide care to someone there then that will be allowed.

Facilities in the 10 postcodes like gyms, swimming pools, movie theatres, play centres and other community activities will also be closed from today.

Premier Andrews said: "This only works if people comply, this only works if people use common sense and I am confident those communities will do that."

There hasn't been any indication when the restrictions will be eased but it probably won't be on the horizon until the number of new infections starts to drop dramatically. On Sunday, there were 75 new cases and more than 60 on Monday.
