A man in his 20s has been declared as Australia's youngest victim of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Victorian was one of 14 people who were killed by the disease in the last 24-hours.

No details have been released on the man's health status prior to contracting the virus.

Other people killed since yesterday's count include three women and two men in their 80s, and four men and four women in their 90s.

Health authorities revealed a further 372 new Covid-19 test results had come back positive in Victoria, taking the state's total to 16,234. The total number of deaths in the state is 289.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews says the new deaths are a tragedy. He also pushed caution as the number of coronavirus cases without a known source remains worryingly high.

"There are 3,119 cases with an unknown source - mystery cases," he said. "That's 51 that have been added - 51 that have been confirmed as an unknown, a mystery case, since yesterday's report."

Victoria recorded 278 cases yesterday, which was one of the lowest single-day increases in weeks.

Victoria's Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton says it's too early to tell whether the state has seen the worst of new cases, however he is hopeful the trend is levelling off.

"Because we've seen a stabilisation in the number of cases, it's essentially levelled off," he said. "I think we will see a levelling off of hospitalisations for community cases in the next couple of weeks and the same for deaths."
