Woman Shocked To Find Out Her Stubborn Adopted Dog Only Understands Spanish

Kalee thought Max was just being disobedient until she realised the dog spoke a different language.

When you adopt a dog, you have to realise that you're taking on an animal that has probably picked up loads of traits from its former owner.

You have to really hope the previous pet owner was diligent with their training, otherwise you could be forced to teach an old dog new tricks.

That's what TikTok user @kaleemcgee thought when she found her adopted chihuahua wouldn't follow her commands.

She wasn't informed about how much training Max had received, however she believed the dog was either stubborn or dumb.

But Kalee then realised something incredible.

"We adopted a dog two or three weeks ago - a great little Chihuahua, four years old from the shelter. No information on him, absolutely adorable and super great," she said in a video on her account.

"He sits when you have a treat in your hand, not when you say 'sit' and he walks really well on the leash, so it seems he has some training. But he won't listen to us.

"So we are trying to get him to sit, trying to get him to do stuff for weeks and we can't figure out why he won't listen to us.

"But we figured it out...our little Chihuahua doesn't know English, and has been looking at us like 'what are you talking about?'"

"He only speaks Spanish."

"I died when I found out so I've got to show you."

It certainly was a huge revelation because once Kalee started saying normal dog commands like come here and sit in Spanish, Max followed along very obediently.

She showed in her TikTok video how when she asked Max to come here, he just looked at her with a blank stare, but if she said 'aqui' then he would come right over.

Loads of people couldn't believe it and many have asked how she managed to find out that it was a language barrier rather than simple disobedience.

Kalee hasn't answered that question however she said she's now trying to scrub up on her Spanish so that she and Max can have a good bond.

"I don't speak Spanish so I know that wasn't the best, we've been relying on Google Translate, but please if you have anything else let me know cause I would love to see how smart this cute little man is," Kalee says to her followers.

"I just don't speak his language."
