Go on, be generous.

People in Melbourne have endured some pretty rough lockdown restrictions in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Residents haven't been able to travel more than 5kms outside their home, can only exercise once a day and only for an hour, can only do grocery shopping once (and that's if your housemates haven't already) and they can't leave their home between 8pm and 5am.

It's not know how much longer this is meant to go on for but the state keeps recording double or triple digit daily increases in cases.

So, if you wanted to put a smile on someone in Melbourne's face, then you can with Uber Eats.

The company will shout a dessert worth up to $20 this week and this week only. It won't cost you or your mate a cent and they'll get to lap up some delicious ice cream as they await restrictions easing.

Uber Eats says they will allow the first 1,000 people outside of Victoria each day to send the treat. Anyone else after that will have to pay full whack.

The company said in a statement: "This #lockdownlove offer will run from 8pm each day this week, till Friday, September 4, and is one way we can all show Melburnians that we're here for them.

"Why dessert? Well, Melburnians have embraced their sweet tooth during lockdown, with evening dessert orders skyrocketing by 22 per cent."

But that's just inside Australia. Very generous friends have sent their pals things as far away as San Francisco and Newfoundland in Canada. There have also been more than 270 orders sent across the Tasman from our New Zealand mates.

In order to access the deal, you just have to chuck in your Melbourne mate's address in the delivery location and then you just need to look for dessert options from places like Pidapipo, Lukumades or Sprinkles Ice Creamery.

When you're checking out, you just have to put the promotional code, which is the day of the week followed by love, like 'mondaylove', 'tuesdaylove', etc. The deal kicks in at 8pm when curfew begins and will only be available to the first 1,000 people, so you have to be quick.

You can share the delivery process with your mate so they know how far away it is or you can keep it as a surprise.
