Mark Zuckerberg Reveals Meta Employees Have 'Lovingly' Nicknamed Him 'The Eye Of Sauron'

Mark Zuckerberg has revealed the bizarre nickname he's earned inside the Meta headquarters.

Office nicknames can help people bond with one another (as long as it's a nice one) and can often mean you're part of the pack.

However, we're not sure whether you'd want to be associated with the moniker that has been bestowed to the tech billionaire.

Zuckerberg has admitted he's been likened to one of the biggest villains in The Lord of the Rings.

During an appearance on The Tim Ferriss Show, he said it was meant to be a term of endearment.

“Some of the folks I work with at the company — they say this lovingly — but I think that they sometimes refer to my attention as the Eye of Sauron," he explained.

"You have this unending amount of energy to go work on something, and if you point that at any given team, you will just burn them.”

For those who haven't read or seen the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, the Eye of Sauron is 'was a symbol adopted by the Dark Lord in the Third Age'.

According to The Lord of the Rings Fandom page: "The Eye was used as a symbol on armour and banners of Mordor, representing Sauron's quasi-omnipotence."

Essentially, it was the soul of Sauron, aka the Dark Lord, aka the one who 'rules the land of Mordor and has the ambition of ruling the whole of Middle-earth'.

It's tough to imagine a 'loving' version of this character in real-life, however it looks like Zuckerberg doesn't mind being likened to it.

He explained how he struggles to chill out when he's at work, which isn't all that surprising considering he's running one of the biggest companies in the world.

He added on The Tim Ferriss Show: "Maybe I’m not strong-willed enough or calm enough to do just straight-up meditation.

“I actually need to put myself in a situation where it’s difficult to not focus on that thing.”

During the same interview, he also dived into his hopes for the metaverse.

Meta is one of many companies developing a virtual world that is full of fun and exciting activities.

Zuckerberg reckons this will be a history-defining moment once it becomes part of everyday life.

“There are all these reasons why it is very valuable for people to be able to be present in another place, no matter what the situation is,” he said.

“You don’t have to be in some kind of dystopian situation to be present with another person that you care about, or an opportunity that is better at another place."
