Adele Reportedly Signs £90 Million Record Deal After Leaving XL

To date, Adele has released her three albums (19,21,25), under XL Recordings, the same independent label that homes Radiohead, The xx, Jungle and the label that released Dizzee's seminal Boy in da Corner LP.

It's fair to say that she's made the company about a squillion dollars (probably), but like most good things it must come to an end.

That deal with XL has run its course so, inevitably, someone else has snapped her up, and realistically only a major label was going to be able to afford the singer.

She has now reportedly signed a staggering £90 million deal with Sony.

According to The Guardian, Adele is already worth an estimated £85 million and has single-handedly been credited with reviving album sales across the globe.

However, £90 million feels like a huge number in a climate where endless streaming services and piracy are constantly diminishing revenue for artists. Although it's never been a problem for Adele, which is most likely what Sony are betting on here.

The deal was apparently brokered by Adele's manager back in December but has been kept under wraps until now.

She reportedly now holds the record for the biggest record deal ever for a British artist and for an international female artist.

As of yet, the terms of the contract are not public knowledge. Adele has always been a singer to release music at her own pace in the past so it will be surprising if she's agreed to a 'one allbum every 24 months' type deal.
