Ed Sheeran Hits Out At Neighbours Over Planning Dispute

Ed Sheeran has said that neighbours disputing his plans to extend his vast estate need to 'mind their own business'.

The singer has been building on his land in Suffolk, but a recent complaint to the council suggests his latest plans have wound up locals.

However, the 30-year-old singer told Hits Radio Breakfast yesterday (24 June) that people need to leave him to the plans on 'Sheeran-ville', as some call it.

Not that he uses that nickname himself, of course. Ed explained: "I didn't name it that. I tried to change the name of it to The Shire because I love The Hobbit. But it got denied."

The singer has previously been granted permission for improvements he wanted to make on his sprawling Suffolk estate, but someone complained after spotting a gazebo in the background of one of his Instagram snaps - claiming he didn't have permission to build on the land.

According to The Sun, an investigation has now been launched after an eagle-eyed Instagram user saw the structure in the background of a photo Sheeran posted recently, in which he can be seen adopting a rather unusual method to drink his glass of vino.

But Ed is pushing on with his plans anyway, which will see him expand his 'mini village'.

A source recently told The Sun: "It beggars belief that anyone would take the time to phone the council and complain about it but someone has.

"The gazebo was spotted after Ed posted a video of himself in the garden last month talking about his music comeback.

"It can be seen when he is standing outside his boozer, the Lancaster Lock.

"He had permission to build a bar area, with decking and a pizza oven, along with two barbecues. But whoever complained is saying that the gazebo was never there before.

"Now the council is looking into whether he needs planning permission for it.

"Because his property is Grade Two listed, all sorts of hoops have to be jumped through if any work is done."

A spokesperson from East Suffolk Council told LADbible: "We have been made aware that a gazebo has been erected at this property and we are making enquiries to establish if there are any planning requirements."

Sheeran bought his massive farmhouse for £895,000 back in 2012, and then reportedly spent a total of £3.7 million buying up properties around it.

Those properties included another Grade II listed house next door for £450,000, also in 2012, and a £925,000 detached house in front of his home in 2016, along with a bungalow on the other side of his drive for £525,000 in 2017.

In 2019, he bought his neighbour's home for £875,000. Sharon Jest used to live next door to the superstar, and while she said the community was accepting of Sheeran's plans to a point, when he submitted plans to build a chapel and a treehouse, she thought 'enough is enough'.
