Eminem's rep has finally spoken out about a leaked version of his track 'Things Get Worse' did the rounds online earlier this week.

In the song, lyrics suggest that he 'takes sides' with rapper Chris Brown after he assaulted his then girlfriend Rihanna.

The extended version of the single was apparently recorded during production for his 2009 album Relapse and included the lyrics: "I'm not playing, Rihanna, where'd you get the VD at?/ Let me add my two cents/ Of course I side with Chris Brown/ I'd beat a bi*** down too/ If she gave my di** an itch now."

Eminem's publicist, Dennis Dennehy has now released a statement, saying: "This is a leak of something that's over 10 years old. After Eminem recorded it, he scrapped it, and rewrote it. Obviously he and Rihanna have a great relationship."

Other controversial lyrics on the track speak about beating a sex worker 'mercilessly' and leaving her 'for dead', and elsewhere mentioned murdering actor Dakota Fanning, who was 16 years old at the time.

Brown was convicted for assaulting Rihanna when they were travelling to the Grammys in 2009. He was sentenced to five years of probation, one year of domestic violence counselling and six months community service.

Despite the lyrics, Eminem and Rihanna have collaborated on numerous occasions, including on their hit singles, 'Love the Way You Lie' and 'The Monster'. Both songs discuss perspectives on abusive relationships.

Rihanna admitted that she was shocked when Eminem wanted to record with her.

Speaking to MTV News at the time, she said: "That's the first thing I thought. I was like, 'What? Eminem wants to do a song with a pop artist? With me?'.

"Cause, you know, he always raps and talks s*** about pop artists and pop female artists. So it was more of a shock to me than anything, and then that was the first thought.

"The second thought was, 'Of course I'll do a song with Eminem'. That's just something that doesn't come around every day. And then thirdly, I heard the song, and I just loved it."

It looks like we might be expecting new material from Eminem soon, with 50 Cent appearing to confirm the news that the two are collaborating on upcoming music.
