Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson has died in Berlin at the age of 48 from causes unknown at this stage. He was the brains behind the music that featured on Sicario, The Theory of Everything, Prisoners, Arrival and Mother!

Tributes have been flowing in for the composer on social media, with people praising his ability to create symphonic and picturesque music.

One person wrote: "Jóhann Jóhannsson was on the verge of having one of the all-time great careers with the work he had already given us. His contribution is still significant and he will be deeply missed. RIP."

Another added: "Jóhann Jóhannsson. His scores for Prisoners, Sicario & Arrival were stunning. I was looking forward to decades more of his music."

While fellow composer Benjamin Wynn, also known as Deru, wrote: "I am devastated by the news of Jóhann Jóhannsson. Personally, professionally, and for the world. He was a beacon. A guiding light.

"This is a reminder that life is nothing more than a collection of our days. Here's to our attempt to live them fully... Heartbroken."

In his career, Johan won a Golden Globe (The Theory of Everything) and was nominated for an Academy Award, BAFTA and Grammy for his other projects. In addition to his work in film, he produced nine solo albums, contributed to four short films, four TV shows, 11 plays and two contemporary dance performances.
