Court Unlikely To Allow Suge Knight To Attend His Mum's Funeral

Former Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight is unlikely to be allowed to leave prison to attend his mother's funeral as he awaits trial for his alleged role in a fatal hit and run that resulted in the death of a man called Terry Carter.

Knight is currently incarcerated and stands accused of murder following the incident in a car park in Compton, South Central Los Angeles.

His mother, Maxine Chatman, died last Sunday in a hospital in Paramount, California. She had a stroke recently and her health had been in decline for some time. She had suffered kidney failure and collapsing of her lungs before she eventually died surrounded by her family.

Knight had been hoping that he would be allowed to leave the prison on compassionate grounds, but it looks unlikely as he falls into a category of inmate that is ineligible to leave the prison grounds to attend funerals.

That being said, there is a small chance that he might be granted leave to attend, but he would have to file a petition to the court, and even then, that petition could be denied.

TMZ reported that the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department believe that any petition that Knight might file to attend the funeral would be unlikely to be granted.

Suge Knight was arrested back in 2015 after turning up at a location in Compton where Dr. Dre was filming for the Straight Outta Compton NWA film. Knight had been kicked off set at a previous location due to an altercation but claims that he went to apologise.

Upon his arrival he was attacked in his car by the film's security. The security man, Cle 'Bone' Sloan was knocked to the ground after Knight slammed the car into reverse, before accelerating again and knocking down Carter. Carter died as a result of his injuries.
