Rap Bad Boy Or Hip-Hop Hero? - Eminem's Secret Charity Work

Underneath his 'bad boy' exterior, he's actually a big sweetie. Well, maybe

OK, you may have got a bit saturated hearing about Eminem's feud with fellow rapper Machine Gun Kelly recently, but it's time to talk about something nice regarding Marshall Mathers instead.

After all, it's his birthday today, so it might be a good thing to do to look at some of the more redeeming qualities that he has.

Firstly, he's a very talented and well-respected artist, but secondly, he also does a lot of work to give back to the community that he came from.

Whilst it's a very 'rapper' thing to do the stay true to the place that you grew up in, it's less cool to be seen to be a lovely guy. Possibly in an attempt to maintain his hard-man exterior, we actually don't hear a great deal about some of the lovely things that Em does for other people.

Whisper it quietly, but he's actually quite the philanthropist.

He channels all of his charitable works through the Marshall Mathers Foundation and pumps a large chunk of his own money into the various works of that foundation.

In essence, it seems as if Slim Shady wants to give today's kids the sort of opportunities that he was denied when he was a kid.

Born in Missouri in 1972, he moved to Michigan as a boy. His childhood was turbulent to say the least. He dropped out of school at 17 years old after failing the ninth grade on no less than three occasions.

To be fair, that was the least of his issues. It doesn't seem to have done him too much lasting damage though.

He now donates large amounts of money and supports many projects for the kids of the Michigan and Detroit metro area to make sure that at least some kids in situations similar to his get the chances that he didn't.

That involves supporting athletic support, getting kids ready for college, and helping kids who are in crisis.

The Marshall Mathers Foundation also helps outside the educational community. It provides funds for shelters, AIDS charities, food banks, and all sorts of other good causes around the area that he came from.

Obviously, he prefers to keep his good work a secret - either because he doesn't want to lose his 'bad boy' image, or because he just thinks that good work should be done in private.

Either way, the good work is enough reward. So, happy birthday Marshall, keep it up, LAD.
