Royal Wedding 2018: Sir Elton John Performs Lunchtime Gig For Guests

It looks like the royal wedding tour de force could very well be the lunchtime gig, performed by none other than Sir Elton John.

We've had Megan Markle and Prince Harry looking dazzling, Harry's exes roaming about all over the place, and Bishop Michael Curry using the sermon to wax lyrical about all of the issues facing society today.

Needless to say, the royal wedding has been quite an action-packed event thus far. However, it looks like the tour de force could very well have been the lunchtime gig, performed by none other than Sir Elton John.

The 71-year-old singer took a break from his farewell tour to play for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on their special day, performing at the reception hosted by the Queenie herself at St. George's Hall, Windsor Castle.

A statement from the palace said: "Sir Elton performed for the newly married couple in recognition of the close connection he has with Prince Harry and his family."

As we all know, the musician has a longstanding relationship with the royal family and was called upon to perform 'Candle in the Wind' at Princess Diana's funeral in 1997.

The Huffington Post reports that Sir Elton spoke in an interview about Harry and Meghan soon after finding out they were together.

"I spent some time with him at Google camp in Sicily last summer and I could tell that he was totally in love," said the singer. "He didn't really discuss much personally, but he said, 'I'm in love,' and I thought, 'Good for you.'"

Meanwhile, Elton explained that he shared a closeness with Harry because of his strong relationship with Diana.

Earlier this year he told ITV's Lorraine: "She was just loved by people because she had that great ability - which her son, Prince Harry, has inherited - where she could walk into a room of people and make them feel at ease, as if she'd known them all her life.

"[She] would be proud of her boys."

So there's no doubt Elton will have given it his all at the royal wedding luncheon. The only stinger is that there are no videos as the event was a closed reception. But at least we know he was having a good time in the moments leading up to his performance, thanks to this delightful picture circulated by the wonderful users of Twitter.

Good job, Internet.
