The lawyers of XXXTentacion, the 20 year old rapper shot dead in Florida on Monday, say that he may have been the victim of a random robbery according to reports from ABC News.

The musician, whose real name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, died in the car park of Riva Motorsports, Fairfax, Florida and is thought to have possibly been withdrawing cash to buy a motorcycle when he was shot.

TMZ has reported that a Louis Vuitton bag was taken from the car that Onfroy was driving at the time of his shooting.

After his death, a statement was released by his representatives that read: "Jahseh Onfroy-known worldwide as XXXTentacion-tragically passed away from a gunshot wound in Deerfield, Florida.

"It is with great sadness that the news is confirmed in this official statement by his team-manager Solomon Sobande, EMPIRE, Bob Celestin, Esq. and AKW PR.

"In deference to his family, friends, and loved ones and in light of further investigation, we ask that their privacy be respected at this time.

"XXXTentacion touched the lives of millions around the globe and will forever reside in the hearts of countless fans who listened to his music, attended his concerts, and felt the glow of his uncontainable, undeniable, and unique spirit.

"News about memorial services to be issued forthcoming."

After the news of his death broke, an impromptu memorial gathering took place near his house in Florida. Several hundred people gathered in Fairfax to remember the rapper, but scenes turned violent after some people in the crowd became disorderly.

There have been reports of blockages to roads, climbing on cars, and climbing on roofs.

Police attended the scene to disperse the crowd in tactical gear and the L.A. Times reports that they fired projectiles into the crowd.

Police Officer Tony Im said: "They did shoot something into the crowd, probably bean bags,"

They successfully dispersed the crowd, but one person suffered minor injuries.

Since his death tributes have been coming in from around the musical community.

Kanye West said: "Rest in peace,

"I never told you how much you inspired me when you were here thank you for existing"

Wifiisfuneral said: "Honestly heartbroken. You pushed me and so many other to limits we never thought we could even reach dude.
