A 25-year-old TikToker who has to wear dentures has joked that they've affected her love life after having to take her teeth out to eat on dates.

Lily Magno, from New Jersey, US, had a skateboarding accident when she was just 13 years old, which left her with severe trauma to her gums. This became a persistent problem and in 2017 she lost three teeth - including her two front teeth due to gum infections.

She was given dentures last year and initially refused to take them out in front of friends and family.

However, she's found herself able to see the light side of it via her TikTok channel, where she's amassed more than 450,000 followers - largely due to the skits she makes about her fake teeth and how they affect her dating life.

Lily said: "One of my biggest dreams was to work towards becoming a model, work in social media and maybe even work in entertainment, but I felt like those dreams had vanished when I got dentures.

"None of my friends were allowed to see what I looked like without my teeth and I hated eating with them in.

"I even felt weird just taking them out for dinner at home with my parents.

"By January, I began making my fake teeth my niche; people on TikTok seemed to like it and at that point, so did my Instagram followers."

Soon Lily had loads of people getting in touch saying they related to her or that they wish they had her confidence.

"Next thing I knew, I wasn't afraid to post anything without my teeth - no filters, no make up, taking out my teeth in front of family, friends, their friends and strangers," she said.

However, not everyone took it well - on one date, when she took her teeth out to eat, her would-be suitor looked repulsed.

"It used to bother me knowing guys would judge me based on my content and teeth, but now I just don't care," she explained.

"I love what I do and I love that it positively affects others".

Lily said of her skateboarding accident: "I was with my friend and we were messing around and both skateboarding on one board.

"The best way I can explain it is that she used my face to break her fall.

"Luckily, I was wearing a helmet and I had braces in at the time which actually saved my teeth.

"The braces broke and my gums were bleeding but I didn't lose any teeth."

Fast forward to the age of 24 and she said she was 'mortified' to receive dentures.

"I went from being excited about freelance photoshoots and making content to cancelling all of my shoots and taking a step back from social media," she recalled.

"I almost passed out after seeing my smile following the surgery.

"After a while, I began embracing my new smile and making funny TikToks."

Thankfully posting online has helped her to overcome her confidence issues.

She said: "When I have negative encounters with guys I'm interested in, it just proves to me that they're too immature.

"I don't worry too much about finding love in the future because whoever I end up with won't care and I want someone who will embrace my flaws.

"I love having dentures - I used to dread them and couldn't wait to get rid of them but that feels like a lifetime ago!

"If I could spread one message, it would be to embrace your flaws because it's what makes you unique".
