Everyone knows relationships aren't all sunshine and rainbows - they're hard work and have their ups and downs... And you'll often find yourself fighting about something as mundane as doing the washing up or who should get up off the sofa to make the brews.

Usually, though, the arguments are so trivial that they work themselves out within no time, and before we know it we're back to the laughs and jokes we know and love.

One couple in China, however, found out the hard way just how dangerous lovers' tiffs can be when they were involved in high speed accident.

The couple were driving in the city of Rui'an in East China's Zhejiang province, when a CCTV camera caught the car speeding.

According to the driver, Wang, the pair had been having an argument moments before the crash, which saw him lose control of the car and veer to the right side of the road.

The vehicle then slams into a crash barrier, meaning that the couple and the car are sent plunging into the water. I mean, that must have been one hell of an argument.

But it wasn't just their own lives that were at risk; a second camera angle showed that the car also narrowly missed a scooter, before it eventually disappeared down the embankment and into the water.

Witnesses of the 2am accident bravely lept into the river to help the couple, who managed to climb out the car's windows by themselves.

The CCTV footage shows Wang's girlfriend - soaking wet in her long black dress - walking away from the crash site on her own, while the driver himself repeatedly thanks those who helped them.

Rui'an authorities then helped retrieve the couple's car the following morning using a crane.

Something tells me that this can't have been the way they saw things panning out at the start of the night. Usually a date night involves picking a nice restaurant and donning your finest glad rags, before heading out for an evening of wining, dining and having a few laughs. If you're feeling fancy, you might even start things off by popping a bottle of expensive Champagne and ordering some oysters to get you both in the mood. Dessert? Go on then, two spoons.

But I bet it was a frosty few days in the Wang household after this one... At least it will have been memoriable, eh?
