Aldi Is Selling Food Parcels Online To Help Vulnerable And Self-Isolating People

Aldi is selling home delivery food parcels to help vulnerable and self-isolating people who cannot go to the supermarket.

The packages will be available online from tomorrow (Friday) and will be comprised of 22 different essential items, including tinned soup, rice and pasta, as well as antibacterial handwash and a four-pack of toilet roll.

The parcels cost £25 including delivery.

The parcels are priced at £24.99 ($31.08) inclusive of delivery and will be limited to one per customer.

The move marks the first time Aldi has sold groceries online in the UK.

Fritz Walleczek, Managing Director for Corporate Responsibility at Aldi, said: "We are committed to providing quick, safe and affordable access to food for all our customers and understand that, for some, visiting one of our stores is not an option at the moment.

"We're constantly looking for new and better ways to support our customers in these uncertain times and I'm hopeful that these food parcels will make life a little easier for some of the country's most at-risk people."

Meanwhile, the supermarket's wine delivery service - which it has been operating since 2016 - has been trying to cope with 'exceptional demand' since lockdown measures were introduced.

The UK currently has an exceptionally large appetite for wine deliveries.

Its website reads: "Things are rapidly changing within the UK at the moment and we are having to adapt to support our customers and staff.

"At times like these we strive to provide the best standards to ensure our customers can order with confidence and receive a smooth and hassle-free delivery experience.

"Due to the current exceptional demand, we have had to make some changes to our usual delivery services. We have extended our delivery time frame for all deliveries to 3-10 working days."
