Yesterday was not a good look for vegans as they staged protests around Australia.

Dozens of people shut down Melbourne's CBD during a demonstration where protestors held up signs about animal welfare. There were also a few smaller protests at farms across the country, with some activists chaining themselves to abattoirs and others demanding to take livestock 'to a better place'.

Unsurprisingly, the scenes which played out across Australia have been condemned by many, including the Prime Minister, but no more than farmers, who think this type of activism is ridiculous.

Burrumbuttock Hay Runners founder Brendan Farrell, the bloke who set up a group to help distribute hay to struggling farmers, has spoken out on Facebook about yesterday's events and he hasn't held back.

"Vegans are going bananas. Blockades left, right and centre. Flinders Street Station is in chaos. Abattoirs chained up, people locking themselves up here, there and everywhere," he said on Facebook.

"I am just gobsmacked with some of the bullshit that's coming out these people's mouths on what they are trying to achieve."

In total, 39 people were arrested from the Melbourne CBD protest, including a 15 and 17 year old.

A further nine were taken into custody after they stormed a property and chained themselves to a conveyor belt in Goulburn, New South Wales.

Twenty people were also released without arrest or charge after entering an abattoir in Queensland, where the owner relinquished three lambs in order to get them off the property.
