You can only imagine what it's like to lose everything in a fire. Thousands of people across Australia are living that nightmare at the moment as bushfires continue to rage.

But amid the devastation, there have been positive news story. Case in point: a man who lost his family home in bushfires in northern New South Wales has won the lottery.

The anonymous Queenslander bought a ticket online for the Gold Lotto with his wife's 'special numbers', which were 9, 42, 24, 13, 22 and 11 while the supplementary numbers were 26 and 1.

Incredibly, he's walked away with a Division One prize of AUD $1 million (£525,000 / US $685,000).

According to Channel 9, when the man was told of the win, he said: "This is amazing.

"My family just lost their home in the bushfires in northern NSW and it wasn't insured. This is a miracle."

Because he was the only one who scored the right numbers, he was able to win the whole Division One prize. While it might not be able to fully rebuild the family home, it will certainly go a long way to that goal.

However, the situation is not so positive for others as the fire risk escalates.

The army, along with the South Australian Country Fire Service (CFS) and the police, have helped evacuate people in the state as severe fire conditions are predicted to spike tomorrow.

The CFS said: "This is a pre-emptive relocation due to the increased fire risk.

"Currently, there is no immediate threat to life or property but with increasing wind, warmer weather and going fires on Kangaroo Island, this situation is likely to change."

Some people were reportedly given just five minutes to pack up their things and evacuate as far away from the area as possible. The CFS has warned there is a scrub fire that is burning uncontrolled and in a direction that will threaten the safety of people.
