Austin Powers actor Joseph Son is currently serving a life sentence on torture charges. Watch an explanation of the story in the video below (by @delloliod):

Son played Random Task in the first Austin Powers film, 1997's Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.

A month in to his life sentence, he was reportedly placed in solitary confinement after killing his cellmate in Wasco State Prison.

The Daily Mail reports he was first convicted in 1998 in relation to the gang rape of a woman in 1990 after he and an accomplice abducted her at gunpoint on Christmas Eve.

The woman involved goes by the name 'Victoria' because she didn't want to unveil her identity.

Victoria was aged 19 at the time and spoke to CBS about the incident that began with a visit to see the Christmas lights with her friends.

She said: "As I was going home that evening, I know it was just after midnight, I was pulling into my complex, I noticed my gate was wide open. It was extremely dark in the parking lot.

"I had taken my dog and stuck her inside my jacket and then folded her up real tight 'cause it was very cold outside.

"And as I got out I just had the weirdest feeling that I was being watched.

"And as I got up to the sidewalk, I saw a shadow go in front of a light. And as I did that, a guy just came up and fastly approached me.

"And he kept saying, 'Excuse me, excuse me, I'm lost. Can you help me find where the beach is?'

"And then a second person comes up. He had a cigarette in his hand and I see this in slow motion in my head - I see him flicking it and I said to myself, 'Watch where it lands'.

"And then BAM! I got pounced, from the front and from the back.

"He slammed a gun to my head. And he's just like, in my ear, 'I'm gonna kill you so bad, I'm gonna throw you off the cliffs, I'm gonna mutilate you and throw you down the cliffs'.

"And I fought with everything I had in my soul to not be a missing person or to have a toe tag at the end."

Victoria managed to convince her attackers to let her go after showing them a picture of her friend's newborn baby from her wallet which she claimed was her own child. She went home and informed police of the incident.

Evidence was collected at the time but authorities were, initially, unable to identify the suspect.

According to Daily Mail, it was only until Joe plead guilty for a vandalism felony in 2008, where he violated probation and had no choice but to provide a DNA sample - which incredibly matched up to Victoria's sample that she gave police in 1990.

After the samples matched, police were able to convict him on torture charges.

Son's sentence was later extended by 27 years after he was found guilty of the voluntary manslaughter of his cellmate Michael Graham.
