Elusive artist Banksy has shared his latest work, a painting inspired by the death of George Floyd and the black lives matter movement.

Posting on his Instagram the artist shared two images of his new piece alongside a statement which read: "At first I thought I should just shut up and listen to black people about this issue.

"But why would I do that? It's not their problem. It's mine.

"People of colour are being failed by the system. The white system. Like a broken pipe flooding the apartment of the people living downstairs. This faulty system is making their life a misery, but it's not their job to fix it. They can't - no-one will let them into the apartment upstairs.

"This is a white problem. And if white people don't fix it, someone will have to come upstairs and kick the door in."

In the piece a framed photo can be seen with candles and floral tributes alongside it, but the candle is setting light to an American flag which is hanging above it.

Banksy shared the post as protests have broken out across the world following the tragic death of 46-year-old George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis.

In a shocking and heartbreaking clip white police officer Derek Chauvin can be seen pushing his knee into the Mr Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes while he cried out: "I can't breathe."

Chauvin has been arrested and charged with second degree murder and manslaughter. Three other officers, Tou Thao, J.A. Kueng, and Thomas Lane, were also at the scene at the time and have since been charged with aiding and abetting second degree murder.

An independent autopsy revealed that Mr Floyd had died from 'asphyxiation from sustained pressure'.

Dr Michael Baden, who performed the independent autopsy, said: "What we found is consistent with what people saw.

"There is no other health issue that could cause or contribute to the death. Police have this false impression that if you can talk, you can breathe. That's not true."

If found guilty Chauvin could face up to 40 years in prison, while the others men also face a potential maximum sentence of 40 years.
