British Tourist Involved In Shooting Outside A Nightclub In Benidorm
A shooting has taken place last night in the popular Spanish holiday resort of Benidorm. It has been reported that a 42-year-old British man was shot in the buttocks. Two more men - a Moroccan and another male - were also injured.
The incident is thought to have been related to a drug deal, according to the Daily Mail.
Tourists said that shots could be heard just after 11pm last night in an area full of bars and restaurants, that was packed with holidaymakers.
Many British tourists were forced to flee the pubs and restaurants in fear for their lives after the shooting that is thought to have taken place outside the Hippodrome nightclub. There is no suspicion that the nightclub in question was involved in the incident.
The area was then put in lockdown as police and ambulance crews arrived. A manhunt for the perpetrator is underway and the police are examining CCTV footage.
Michelle Todd was in the area, known as Little Britain, last night and told reporters that she was sat in a bar, heard the gunshots, and immediately knew that it was gunfire, not fireworks.
She said: "Two people have been shot and it's all shut off. It's scary. We're not moving anywhere yet."
Nothing like a rush of emotions when you're sat in a bar in Benidorm and all of a sudden 15 cop cars pull up outside pull 2 people out of a car because there's been a shooting 2 minutes up the road from where you're at :no_mouth::weary: pic.twitter.com/hSU7VWfj3j- M I T C H (@mitchmanns95) July 4, 2018
A spokesperson for cab company Alicante Transfers said: "It seemed there was someone shot in the leg and three others involved.

"People went running from the clubs and the main strip. The Strip and clubs have now been closed and sealed off.
"At this time the police have one black BMW and one person in custody. Seems to be a drug war."
Detectives have said that the British man was only injured superficially in the buttocks from what appears to have been a ricochet bullet wound.
The other two men were also injured, but none seriously. Spanish police are hunting four men who were spotted near the scene in a black BMW car. They then fled the scene in a taxi.
A Spanish Police spokesperson said: "No arrests have been made so far. Three men were hurt including a Brit but none seriously."
The Mail reported that a source said: "Witnesses have not said there was a row or fight prior to the shooting.
"One of the theories we are looking at is this was a settling of scores linked to drug dealing.
"The BMW car the gunmen arrived in was abandoned at the scene and is now in a police pound so it can be examined by forensic experts. The men police are hunting fled the scene in a taxi.
"They could be of Arabic origin or eastern European origin."
