Police on the Gold Coast, Queensland have been shocked after figures revealed just how many people are pleasuring themselves in the city's parks.

According to the Courier Mail, CCTV cameras have picked up a 'disturbing' number of men and women masturbating in public.

While they haven't listed the number, the fact that they used the word 'disturbing' is pretty rough.

Robina councillor Hermann Vorster told the Courier Mail: "Our cameras have picked up examples of very lewd sexual behaviour while monitoring areas for vandalism and drug use. This has been a confronting and unexpected find.

"It appears those who make the choice to expose themselves are not very discerning and there have been examples across my division.

"Public spaces should be safe 24 hours a day, seven days a week and there is no excuse for anyone to make locals feel uncomfortable or unsettled in their own neighbourhood."

Loads of the cases have occurred early in the day, usually when no one is around.

While there might not be anyone to witness the lewd act, it doesn't make it any less illegal and police have been called in to help identify anyone that has been caught on camera.

Queensland is no stranger to bizarre public masturbator cases, with one of the strangest occurring in Brisbane.

Benjamin Frederick Moran was accused of walking around the city pleasuring himself, sometimes doing it directly in front of passing women.

The 44-year-old admitted to the incidents, which started in 2015 and went all the way to this year.

Sometimes he would be semi-clothed and other times he would just go full starkers. He would sometimes be on the street, hiding in bushes or in his car, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The offending was even once caught on Google Maps Streetview, showing Moran peering over a fence to try and see inside a home.

During the trial, a psychologist said he mainly got off from women seeing him naked, masturbating or in a state of undress.

They diagnosed Moran with compulsive exhibitionist disorder.

Despite numerous reports to police, he was finally caught in Truro Street in Windsor after a woman notified officers.

She sentenced him to six months behind bars however suspended it for two years, meaning he was able to walk free. That was in relation to 23 of the charges however he's been placed on probation for the remaining 10 charges.
