This is the shocking moment a former Marine disarmed a gunman at a petrol station in America:

The clip shows a customer - who turned out to be a former Marine veteran - speaking to a shop assistant before the door opened and in walked a masked gunman and his pal.

Pointing the gun towards what we believe is the counter area of the shop, the suspected robber is tackled to the ground by the customer, with his gun no longer in hand.

Picked the wrong day to rob a shop, huh?

The incident took place at a Chevron gas station in Yuma, Arizona, on 20 October in the early hours of the morning.

When deputies contacted the customer and asked how he was able to take control of the situation, he stated: "The Marine Corp taught me not to [mess] around."

The criminals were left scrambling for the door.
