The trailer for Amazon's new take on Cinderella features a first look at Billy Porter's 'genderless' Fairy Godmother. Watch below:

Porter will be the first man who has played the part, with the film also starring Camila Cabello as Cinderella.

The newly released trailer, which dropped on Tuesday (3 August), is one month ahead of the movie's release on Amazon Prime Video on 3 September.

It shows Porter's Fairy Godmother transition from a golden butterfly while landing near Cabello's Cinderella in order to get her ready for the famous ball, declaring: "I am your fabulous godmother!"

While reflecting on his new role in Cinderella last year, Porter said: "Magic has no gender. We are presenting this character as genderless - at least that's how I'm playing it.

"And it's really powerful. It's going to be a classic fairy tale for a new generation.

"I think the new generation is really ready. The kids are ready. It's the grown-ups that are slowing stuff down."

The film also stars Broadway legend Idina Menzel as Cinderella's stepmother Vivian, and former Bond star Pierce Brosnan as King Rowan, along with James Corden as a mouse-turned-footman.

James Corden has already appeared in a wide variety of movie musicals, so Twitter wasn't surprised to see him in the cast of Cinderella.

Given that Corden has starred in musicals like Cats, Prom and Into The Woods in recent years, it's unsurprising that people have noticed a trend. Moreover, it seems that Corden has been typecast as comic relief in the vast majority of his films.

This looks to be the case again in the trailer, as a mouse transforms into Corden before the actor falls over because he no longer has a tail to help him balance.

Corden has also acted as a producer for this project. The film will also see Kay Cannon, known for her writing work on New Girl and Pitch Perfect, direct.
