The co-founder of the infamous Bongo's Bingo wants to crack America after managing to become hugely popular with events in over 40 locations, UK and abroad.

The concept was created by Belfast born Jonny Bongo (real name Jonny Lacey) and for those who don't know - Bongo's Bingo is simply one huge game of bingo...with a bit of a twist.

As well as playing the traditional game, there are dance raves in between rounds, along with mega prizes, ranging from a box of coco pops, cardboard cut-outs of your favourite celebrities, a thousand-pound cash price, mobility scooters, Henry Hoovers and even an actual boat, which Jonny says is the 'craziest' prize that's ever been won.

Jonny told LADbible: "You're actually doing an activity, you're up and down all night playing bingo and dancing on the benches and I just think, from the start of the show, it's one hundred miles an hour."

Bongo's Bingo has become incredibly popular in the UK.

His UK party sensation has already hit Ibiza, Dubai and Australia, however, he now has the US in his sights.

He added: "Before COVID hit, the plan was pretty much signed and sealed for heading over to the States.

"Now that we're back on our feet after the pandemic, this is the stuff that we're starting to work on again.

When asked about Vegas, Jonny says he expects it to have the same impact as Ibiza, aka 'party island'.

"I'd love to develop the show over there, obviously, the American audience is a bit different - I enjoy hosting shows to different audiences."

Nothing quite beats a game of good old fashioned bingo...

Jonny revealed that the idea behind Bongo's Bingo came from hosting traditional Bingo quizzes in Liverpool.

He went on to say: "I started this pub quiz in 2010 in a bar in Liverpool called 'The Shipping Forecast' and I was randomly coming up with a name for it and we were literally around a table where someone thought of Jonny Bongo.

"So I was trying to make boring pub quizzes a little more accessible and breed some more life into it. So it would have mad prizes, raves in the middle of this quiz, bonus rounds, dance-offs etc."

He explained that, despite enjoying the shows, after five years he fancied taking it to the next level.

He said: "I was looking at doing something different, I was doing the quiz for five years - it was really really popular, it would be packed every week with loads of people in this pub but I just fancied doing something else."

In 2015, Jonny and co-founder Joshua Burke officially started Bongo's Bingo in Liverpool, whilst the Belfast man admits he would 'probably still be doing events in Liverpool' if it wasn't for his business partner, who had previously worked in events and business and persuaded him to expand.

"I'm still pinching myself, we're six/seven years in now and the opportunities are still around and the scope of it, I think it will go on forever, the same way traditional Bingo has," Jonny said.

He concluded: "At its core, it's just a bit of fun, people can just have a laugh.

"We don't take ourselves too seriously, which means that the audience don't have to take themselves too seriously.

"It's a mixed crowd of all ages but everyone is just on the same level, which is something you don't find very often now."
