Most parents usually take it easy on their kids when it comes to sports, given that they've usually got a few decades' more experience than their offspring. Not this dad, though.

The competitive parent decided to show his four-year-old son a thing or two after the youngster boasted he could beat his old man at basketball.

Dad-of-one Terrance Ervin, 23, pulled out all the stops as he went against son Chaise on the child-sized basketball hoop in his living room.

Bragging that he could beat his dad, Chaise had challenged Terrance to a one-on-one match.

Terrance rose to the challenge, holding nothing back as he threw out his best moves to thrash the youngster, easily defending each attempt to score.

Thankfully, Chaise saw the funny side and can be seen laughing hysterically in the viral footage as his dad relentless dunked each shot in the hoop.

But sales rep Terrance claims Chaise eventually became frustrated with his dad's skill, begging him to miss and let him make some shots.

The duo still managed to end the game as the best of friends, with Terrance referring to Chaise's defeat as 'character-building' and treating him to some frozen yoghurt afterwards.

The two are still friends, thankfully.

Terrance, from Richmond, Virginia, in the US, said: "My son came to me and told me that he could beat me in a one-on-one game of basketball, so of course I had no choice but to drop 30 on his head.

"Of course I didn't let him win. Losing helps him build character.

"Eventually he said, 'Wait, daddy, can you miss and let me make some shots, please?'

"Thankfully he didn't take it too badly. At the end of the day, when all is said and done, we had a good time playing against each other.

"After I beat him, I treated him to [frozen yoghurt] afterwards so he was happy.

"I recently bought a Canon camera and now we pretty much film everything we do, so this was one of those.

"I'm still in awe that this went viral to be honest because we do this kind of thing every day.

"The reactions were a real mix. The men were saying that this is how they wanted to be as a dad.

"The women were also saying they wanted to come home and see their husband and son playing like this."
