A couple believe that they may have captured Brian Laundrie in the background of a selfie that was took during a camping trip earlier this month:

Marci Newsom and her family were staying at the Fort De Soto Park in Pinellas County and say that the Laundrie family may have been just yards away from them.

This was just days before 22-year-old Gabby Petito was reported missing on 11 September with her family claiming that they were trying to get in touch with the Laundries before that.

Gabby's body was found in an area of Grand Teton National Park and Bridger-Teton National Forest on 21 September.

Records show that Brian Laundrie's mum, Roberta Laundrie, booked into the campsite on 6 September - the very same day as Marci.

When it came to looking back at their memories from their trip, the couple claim that a selfie taken could show Laundrie in the background.

Speaking to camping friends and informing them that they were in fact camping at the same time as the Laundrie family, Marci explained: "You took a selfie of the four of us and in the background there's a guy walking across the field."

Now, questions are being asked whether it was in fact Laundrie.

Speaking to NBC2: "We checked in on Labor Day. Apparently, they were in the campground when we were there and they checked in right next to us."

Miss Petito was reported missing on September 11 by her parents after she did not respond to calls and texts for several days while she and Brian Laundrie visited parks in the west of the US.

Her body was discovered last Sunday in a remote area in north-western Wyoming. Mr Laundrie and Miss Petito grew up on Long Island but in recent years moved to Florida.

Miss Petito's death has been classified as homicide, but medical examiners have not disclosed how she died pending further post mortem examination results.

The couple posted online about their trip in a white Ford Transit van converted into a camper.

Earlier in their trip they had got into a physical altercation which had led to a police stop for a possible domestic violence case.
