A man in Australia has pulled his son out of school after accusing teachers of trying to 'brainwash' his son about climate change.

Max Karlos, 10, was taken out of his school in September after telling his dad Matt that he'd been asked to dress like a 'hippy' by his teachers.

Thirty-eight-year-old Matt was unhappy with the activity, saying he didn't want his son dressed up as 'a bunch of dole-bludging, drug-taking hippies who strap themselves to roads and do nothing with their lives'. Wow, tell us what you really think, mate.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, he said: "There are about 50 of them on our road all the time, protesting against my family's water company - we go past them everyday so Max knows what they're about, and he's not interested."

His son Max told 9News' A Current Affair programme: "They asked us all to dress up as hippies and sing this song, 'Big Yellow Taxi'. We shouldn't be worrying about the end of the world."

The song, written by Joni Mitchell, includes the lyrics 'they paved paradise to put up a parking lot' and has various references to the environment, including telling a farmer to 'put away that DDT'. DDT is a banned insecticide - although officially taken out of use in the 1970s, it still shows up in crops and rivers.

Joni Mitchell recorded the original version of 'Big Yellow Taxi' in 1970.

Speaking about being asked to dress up as hippies, Max added: "I thought, 'What's so good about it?' There's nothing good about it. They just sit around doing nothing all day."

Matt, a pilot, said that he thought the discussion around science-backed climate change theories relating to the effect that humans have had on the global environment was based on a political agenda.

He continued: "They should be dressing as farmers or labourers or people who work hard, not pushing the Green agenda - they should be learning about good agricultural practices and land management in farming."

Max says hippies sit around all day doing nothing.

He's now trying to find a school that will take his son, adding: "Max is pretty head-strong and sure of himself - a lot like me - and after the hippy thing he was done, and wanted to change schools.

"The teachers are making the kids terrified of the future - they're scaring them by telling them mankind caused climate change - the ideologies were in his face all the time."
