A killer on death row who was due to be executed this week put in a ridiculously large request for his last meal.

John Marion Grant is currently incarcerated in Oklahoma for the murder of Gay Carter back in 1998, and he decided to ask the state for a mass of food that included half a gallon of Neapolitan ice cream, burgers, chips, and cookies.

However, his death sentence has once again been delayed because of an appeal to the US Federal Court.

Grant was set to be executed by lethal injection for murdering Carter, who was a member of staff that he repeatedly stabbed whilst in another prison for robbery.

If it had gone ahead, Grant's execution would have been the first in six years in the state, as there is an ongoing controversy about whether the cocktail of drugs used in lethal injections is humane.

The state of Oklahoma has said it will appeal to the US Supreme Court for the right to carry out the scheduled execution.

One thing did take place though.

Between the hours of 5:00pm and 7:00pm on the day before the execution was due to take place, Grant was served up a feast.

He requested two bacon cheeseburgers with onions, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes and mustard, as well as the aforementioned tub of ice cream, a large bag of barbecue flavoured chips, some Nutter Butter sandwich cookies, and two litres of Mr Pibb soft drink.

The rule is that last meals have to cost less than $25, so he certainly managed to get his money's worth out of it.

Anyway, the execution hasn't taken place because one of the drugs being used for the execution has been challenged.

Grant has sued the state because they planned to use Midazolam - which has been used in a number of other executions - as part of the process.

Some experts have said that it's not a strong enough sedative, and that it could make the execution process painful and - frankly - horrific.

Grant killed Carter in 1998 by stabbing her 16 times whilst at the Dick Connor Correctional Center in Hominy, also in Oklahoma.

She later died of internal bleeding.

Grant is currently being held at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester awaiting the appeal verdict.
