'What would your final meal be?' has always been something of great interest. Our curiosity takes over when it comes to death row inmates - but there can be some really underwhelming requests such as a cup of coffee or, even worse, dirt... yep that really happened.

You might be interested to find out that criminals due to be executed in Texas have been stripped of the traditional luxury after a white supremacist called Lawrence Russell Brewer ruined it for everyone else.

Brewer, 44, was executed back in September 2011. He had ordered a final meal of two chicken fried steaks with gravy and sliced onions, a triple-patty bacon cheeseburger and a cheese omelette with beef mince, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers and jalapenos, the New York Times reported.

Then (there's more) he was also served fried okra with ketchup, a pound of barbecued meat with half a loaf of white bread, three fajitas and a meat pizza.

And just when you were thinking, that can't be it - don't worry, it wasn't because Brewer also ordered a pint of ice cream and peanut butter fudge with crushed peanuts. Oh, not forgetting the three root beers to wash it down.

Prison guards probably thought they were about to see something really impressive. But nope. Once his food arrived, he told the staff he wasn't hungry in one last attempt to 'make a mockery of the system', according to State Senator, John Whitmire.

Lawrence Russell Brewer was given the sentence of capital punishment for taking part in the racially-motivated murder of James Byrd Jr.

His accomplice, John William King, was executed on Wednesday but he didn't get the chance to pick any grub and he's only got his old pal Brewer to thank for that.

According to the Mirror, Texas inmates are now denied special requests and are simply given whatever is on the menu for each and every prisoner.

The day after Brewer's last act of contempt in 2011, lawmakers in Texas were outraged and as a result decided to bring a stop to the final meal on death row tradition altogether.

Speaking about Brewer, State Senator John Whitmire - who forced the ban - explained to the New York Times back then: "He never gave his victim an opportunity for a last meal. Why in the world are you going to treat him like a celebrity two hours before you execute him?

"It's wrong to treat a vicious murderer in this fashion. Let him eat the same meal on the chow line as the others."
