It's been kept no secret that Dog the Bounty Hunter has joined the search to find fugitive Brian Laundrie, who is wanted in connection with the death of Gabby Petito.

Days into his participation, a plane was seen flying ahead with a banner that read: "Aloha Brian Laundrie - Dog," which lead people to believe that the reality TV star - whose real name is Duane Chapman - had commissioned the message to taunt Laundrie.

Taking to Twitter @boutAWeekAhgo wrote: "This junction of the Gabby Petito murder investigation feels like an absolute fever dream.

"You have Dog the Bounty Hunter who's tracked Brian Laundrie down to a tropical island and is now taunting him by flying a banner around the island in hopes of flushing him out."

However, Chapman (well, his team at least) have responded to explain that the plane banner stun wasn't him, telling Newsweek: "Frankly, I wish I had thought of that, but it wasn't our team.

"I'd love to shake the hand of whoever is behind the banner, I'll tell you that."

Gabby Petito, 22, disappeared after she and Laundrie, 23, left in July on a cross-country trek in a converted van to visit national parks in the West.

They got into a fight along the way, and Laundrie was alone when he returned in the van to his parent's home in North Port on 1 September, police said.

She was reported missing on 11 September after she did not respond to calls and texts for several days. Then police discovered her body on 21 September.

As well as being wanted in connection to Gabby's disappearance, Laundrie is also wanted on a federal arrest warrant from the FBI for allegedly fraudulently using a bank card that wasn't his to withdraw money after Gabby was last seen alive.

It's believed that Laundrie returned to his parent's place at the beginning of September before telling them he was going hiking in Florida and hasn't been seen since, sparking a massive manhunt.
