Dog the Bounty Hunter has claimed to have found a fresh campsite where he and his team came across a recently discarded can of Monster Energy Ultra Gold in the search for Brian Laundrie.

Reality TV star Dog - real name Duane Chapman - is on the hunt for fugitive Brian Laundrie and has apparently come across a new campsite close to the one Laundrie's family stayed at when his girlfriend Gabby Petito went missing.

Ms Petito, 22, disappeared after she and Laundrie left in July on a cross-country trek in a converted van to visit national parks in the West.

They got into a fight along the way, and Laundrie was alone when he returned in the van to his parent's home in North Port on September 1, police said.

She was reported missing on 11 September after she did not respond to calls and texts for several days. Then police discovered her body on 21 September.

The new campsite that Chapman is now at is on Egmont Key in the woods of Shell Island near Fort De Soto Park, which was where the Laundrie family checked in to on 6 September.

Chapman seems to believe there is a link between Laundrie and the energy drink can - which was showing no signs of rust or faded colours when it was found - but right now, according to FOX News, there is no firm evidence there is a connection.

Speaking on Twitter, 68-year-old Chapman said: "We're here at the island. This would be and could be the perfect spot for him to hide. Not too many people out here but there's a lot of environmental things that we're going to fight.

"So here we go. The search now is really on. The search has just begun."

Chapman joined the search for Laundrie and was seen knocking on the door of the home of Laundrie's parents, with who he had been living with on 25 September.

Chapman told FOX News: "We had a lot of requests that I get in on this. This is what I do for a living, for 45 years."

The father of 13 sadly lost his daughter to a car accident when she was the same age as Petito and explained: "I know what the victims feel like."
