Dolly Parton has never been known as a shrinking violet. True to form, the 74-year-old recently revealed that while some of her contemporaries may want to ride off into the sunset and enjoy their retirement, she still has hopes of being the cover girl for Playboy when she reaches 75 next year.

Speaking to 60 Minutes, the singer said it's still her ambition to appear on the magazine's cover - if they'll let her.

She said: "I don't plan to retire. I just turned 74 and I plan to be on the cover of Playboy Magazine again. See I did Playboy Magazine years ago and I thought it'd be such a hoot if they'll go for it - I don't know if they will - if I could be on the cover again when I'm 75."

Dolly first took to the cover back in 1978, with the strapline: "O-o-o-e-e-e! A hit interview with country queen Dolly Parton."

At the time the then 32-year-old was the first country singer to pose for the lifestyle mag, though she laid down some strict rules - and was clear that there was no chance of any nudity.

Looking back at her shoot, the 'Islands in the Stream' singer once said: "I have been asked, back in the day, but that was so totally not me. I would never do that.

"But that was a good article they ran in there, and it was just a fun thing to do. That was just another way I was trying to market myself, at that time, to kinda get in the mainstream..."

Dolly was the first country singer to star on the front cover of Playboy, back in 1978.

When she was asked whether she would don the same bunny outfit she did for the original snaps, Dolly said it wasn't out of the question.

She added: "I could probably use it. Maybe, I could probably use it, [my] boobs are still the same.

"I'm kind of cartoonish and cartoons don't really age that much. When I'm 90, I'll probably look about the same way. Just thicker makeup, bigger hair."

Dolly is currently promoting her new documentary, The Library That Dolly Built, which tells the story of her book gifting program, which is aimed at encouraging education for young people across the world.

In the trailer for the doc, she says: "We thought, 'Maybe, if we're lucky, it might go a couple of counties over.'

"Of all the things I've done in my life, this is one of the most precious things. If you are lucky and fortunate enough to be in a position to help, you should help."

Keep your eyes peeled for Parton's big return - the big day is 19 January 2021. Over to you, Playboy.
