Donald Trump Attacks Boris Johnson Over London Tier Four Christmas Announcement

Donald Trump has attacked UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson for sending London and parts of the South East into Tier Four coronavirus restrictions ahead of Christmas.

Trump - of course - used Twitter to argue against Johnson's decision to change the UK's agreed plans for the festive period and said that the 'cure cannot be worse' than the disease that has left thousands dead, and thousands more in Trump's USA.

Donald tweeted: "We don't want to have lockdowns. The cure cannot be worse than the problem itself!"

Whatever you make of it, there's at least one piece of truth in that statement - we don't want to have lockdowns.

However, the science dictates what has to happen, and with a new variant of the virus spreading quickly around the areas that have entered the more strict restrictions, something had to be done.

Under the Tier Four regulations, non-essential businesses have to close, which includes gyms, leisure centres, and hairdressers.

It also means that the planned easing of socialising rules between 23 and 27 December are now off the cards for people within those areas as well.

The new strain that was discovered by UK scientists earlier this week could be as much as 70 percent more transmissible than the existing strains of the virus.

Speaking to the public in a press conference, Johnson announced: "It is with a very heavy heart that I must tell you we cannot proceed with Christmas as planned,"

He continued: "In England, those living in Tier 4 areas should not mix with anyone outside their own household at Christmas, though support bubbles will remain in place for those at particular risk of loneliness or isolation.

"Across the rest of the country, the Christmas rules allowing up to three households to meet will now be limited to Christmas Day only, rather than the five days as previously set out.

"As before, there will be no relaxation on the 31 [December], so people must not break the rules at New Year."

Professor Chris Whitty also said that the UK government had told the World Health Organisation (WHO) about the new variant and it's potential to spread more quickly.

He said: "There is no current evidence to suggest the new strain causes a higher mortality rate or that it affects vaccines and treatments, although urgent work is under way to confirm this.

"Given this latest development, it is now more vital than ever that the public continue to take action in their area to reduce transmission."
