Donald Trump has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for his work in brokering a deal between Israel and the UAE.

According to reports, the President of the United States was nominated by Christian Tybring-Gjedde - a right wing Norwegian politician.

He said in his nomination letter: "As it is expected other Middle Eastern countries will follow in the footsteps of the UAE, this agreement could be a game changer that will turn the Middle East into a region of cooperation and prosperity."

Adding that the President's "key role in facilitating contact between conflicting parties and... creating new dynamics in other protracted conflicts, such as the Kashmir border dispute between India and Pakistan, and the conflict between North and South Korea, as well as dealing with the nuclear capabilities of North Korea".

Speaking to Fox News later, Mr Tybring-Gjedde said: "For his merit, I think he has done more trying to create peace between nations than most other Peace Prize nominees."

And while he claimed that he wasn't a huge supporter of Trump's, Mr Tybring-Gjedde said he deserved to be considered for the prestigious award.

He added: "The committee should look at the facts and judge him on the facts - not on the way he behaves sometimes.

"The people who have received the Peace Prize in recent years have done much less than Donald Trump.

"For example, Barack Obama did nothing," he said, referring to Obama's Nobel Peace Prize win in 2009.

Anyone can be put forward for a Nobel Peace Prize, so long as they meet the required criteria.

For example, a nomination can only be made by an individual or organisation that has previously been awarded the prize, a university professor, member of government, members of the International Court of Justice, the Institut de Droit International, or current and former members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

In February, these nominations will then go to the five members - appointed by the Storting (Norwegian parliament) - of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, who will decide on the candidates based on their work. A team of advisers will then review these candidates.

Once a review had been completed, the Nobel Committee chooses this year's Nobel Laureates in October. The chosen Laureates will then receive their prize at a ceremony in Oslo in December.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Greta Thunberg had been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for her work on battling climate change.

The teenager has been put forward by Swedish politicians Jens Holm and Hakan Svenneling, of the country's Left Party.

Speaking at the time, they said: "Greta Thunberg is a climate activist, and the main reason she deserves the Nobel Peace Prize is that despite her young age, she has worked hard to make politicians open their eyes to the climate crisis.

"The climate crisis will produce new conflicts and ultimately wars. Action for reducing our emissions and complying with the Paris Agreement is therefore also an act of making peace."
