Donald Trump was prank called during a journey on Air Force One by a joker pretending to be Piers Morgan, the Good Morning Britain presenter has claimed.

The president - well, he still was at that stage - didn't realise he'd fallen afoul of a practical joke until he called up the real Morgan while heading down to Florida to vote last year.

Speaking on the BBC's 'Americast' podcast, Morgan explained how the president's security was breached by the unknown prankster back in October.

Morgan also admitted he had a falling out with Trump recently over the former POTUS' handling of the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed more than 400,000 people in the USA so far.

Chatting to Jon Sopel, who asked Morgan why he'd received an unexpected phone call from Trump in October, the presenter spoke of an 'absolutely hilarious story, where somebody had called [Trump] pretending to be me the day before and got through to him on Air Force One'.

According to Morgan's account, the 45th President of the USA didn't realise he had been tricked. Morgan added: "They had a conversation with Trump thinking he was talking to me."

It's not clear who the practical joker was, or how they managed to get through to Trump's line on his presidential aircraft, but it certainly isn't the first time that something like this has happened to someone in a position of power.

The Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as well as Britain's Prime Minster Boris Johnson have both been the subject of prank phone calls in the past, although Johnson was just the foreign secretary at the time.

However, this does raise some serious concerns about the security of presidential phone calls while Trump was in office.

You might remember a few significant phone calls - including one to the Georgia Secretary of State - have found their way into the public domain of late.

As for Morgan, he was initially pretty keen on Trump's presidency, and was a vocal supporter. However, he admitted that while the pair had a 'very nice conversation' in October, the Republican president's 'desire to make everything about himself' made him a 'useless leader' ultimately.

He also described Trump's behaviour in the aftermath of his 3 November election loss as 'egregious' and said it was 'so obviously on a pathway' that culminated in the violence at the Capitol Building on 6 January.

Morgan concluded: "I just felt - no, I'm done with you now."
