Donald Trump has said he 'may be immune' to Covid-19 after testing positive and being treated in hospital:

The 74-year-old US President posted a video on Twitter following his discharge from the Walter Reed Medical Centre.

In the video he explained he's feeling 'better than he did 20 years ago' as well as toying with the possibility he's now 'immune' to the disease.

It's hard to know how long people that have tested positive for Covid are immune for (because it's a new virus) but research suggests that once you've had coronavirus your body builds up a defence - just like other infections.

In this latest video, Trump said: "I just left Walter Reed medical centre, and it's really something very special. The doctors, the nurses, the first responders. And I learned so much about coronavirus.

"And one thing that's for certain. Don't let it dominate you. Don't be afraid of it. You're going to beat it. We have the best medical equipment. We have the best medicines. All developed recently.

"You're going to beat it. I went, I didn't feel too good. And two days ago, I could have left two days ago. I felt great, like better than I have in a long time. I said just recently, better than 20 years ago.

"Don't let it dominate. Don't let it take over your lives. Don't let that happen. We're the greatest country in the world. We're going back. We're going back to work. We're going to be out front."

Both Trump and his wife Melania tested positive.

He went on to say that he was discharged from hospital because he's a leader, adding: "I knew there's a danger to it, but I had to do it. I stood out front. I led. Nobody that's a leader would not do what I did.

"I know there's a risk. There's a danger. But that's OK. And now I'm better. And maybe I'm immune. I don't know. But don't let it dominate your life.

"Get out there. Be careful. We have the best medicines in the world, and it all happened very shortly. And they're all getting approved. And the vaccines are coming momentarily."

Before the video was posted, Trump landed at the White House and hopped off Marine One before walking to the Truman balcony to pose for photos.

He removed his face mask, despite potentially still being infectious with Covid-19, and stood for several moments. He also gave a salute before turning and walking inside.
