Shocking CCTV footage has captured the moment a man was sent flying through the air following a motorbike crash - with a subsequent breathalyser test revealing the driver was nearly seven times over the legal limit.

The footage, recorded in Shanxi, Zhongshan, in south China Guangdong province, shows a motorbike speeding into shot at high speed.

The motorbike, which has three passengers on-board, then crashes into a triangular traffic island, which is covered in shrubs and has a tree growing out of it.

Two of the riders are sent over the handles and into the bushes, narrowly avoiding the tree. However, the third is less fortunate, with the collision catapulting him around twenty feet up and over the island and into the road on the far side, skimming off the surface as he lands.

Zhang, the 26-year-old driver of the motorbike, can be seen going over to check on his friend, Li, 20, who appears to be slowly writhing on the ground. The other passenger, 20-year-old Wang, can also be seen getting to his feet in the video.

Li was subsequently hurried to Zhongshan People's Hospital for treatment and is reported to not be in any life-threatening condition.

Zhang has been detained for 15 days on charges of driving without a licence
and overcrowding.

However, he is expected to face further punishment for drink-driving, with police still awaiting his toxicology report.

A police spokesman said: "The suspect Zhang showed to be well over the legal alcohol limit."

China's legal alcohol limit is 20mg/100ml, and police said Zhang's breathalyser results came back as 139mg/100ml.

Zhang will be summoned and additional punishments will be issued once the more precise results of the toxicology report are returned.

The men were reportedly on their way to another bar to have more drinks with friends when they crashed into the traffic island.

So in case you were in any doubt, the answer evidently is no. No it's not a good idea to ride a motorbike when you're seven times over the legal alcohol limit. No it's not a good idea to get on a motorbike when there are already two people on it. And no, it's definitely not good idea to merge these two no nos.
