The Eiffel Tower has been evacuated and sealed off after a man reportedly threatened to detonate a bomb.

According to local reports, there is a cordon covering a large area surrounding the landmark, with police urging people to stay away.

Local media has reported that police were alerted to the Parisian landmark after they were told over the phone that a bomb had been placed in the tower.

French journalist Amaury Bucco tweeted: "Perimeter of Tour Eiffel cordoned off, police operation in progress," citing a police source.

According to MailOnline, armed officers were seen at a cordon and explosives teams were searching the site.

LADbible has reached out to police on Paris for confirmation.
