A mass shooting in central Lille has left 'many wounded', with anti-terrorist police arriving on the scene in minutes, but early indications are that it was not terror-related.
The incident occurred at around 9.50pm near the Porte d'Arras metro stop in the south of the city, with police suggesting the motivation was 'a settling of accounts' by the shooter.
As a precautionary measure, armed police have sealed off roads in the city centre as they try to contain the situation.
A police source said: "The attack was in place Jacques Febvrier, next to the Porte d'Arras metro station. Officers remain at the scene.

"Those hurt have been taken to the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul hospital.
"A car pulled up outside the station and targeted the three youths hurt. It appears this was a settling of scores.
"None of the injuries are life threatening."
At least three people were injured, including a 14-year-old, reports French news site La Voix Du Nord.

The identity of the those injured in the attack is unknown.
The swift response to the shooting came as France remains in a high state of alert following a string of Islamist terror attacks during the past 12 months.
