Former French President and Prime Minister Jacques Chirac has died at the age of 86.
Son-in-law Frederic Salat-Baroux told AFP: "President Jacques Chirac died this morning surrounded by his family, peacefully."
The centre-right politician was head of state from 1995 to 2007.
Having served two terms as French President, one of the most significant political reforms he made was to cut the presidential term of office from seven to five years.
He was also Prime Minister of France from 1974 to 1976 and from 1986 to 1988.
Rest in peace.
