Fourteen members of the same family contracted the coronavirus after meeting up for a reunion after spending months apart in lockdown.

None of the family felt ill before they met at the home of Tony Green and his partner, but within days of the barbecue 14 of those who attended would test positive for the virus. One has since died and another is on a ventilator.

Speaking to Fox4News,Green, who lives in Dallas, Texas, said: "Everyone has reassured me that it's not my fault, but it's my home.

"I feel like I'm the host. And even though we don't know who had or what, it spread because I had this idea to get together. I'm having a difficult time with that."

He and his partner invited both their parents as well as other family members and attendees did not wear masks, something Green says he now regrets.

Following the get together, which took place in June, his partner's grandmother died and his father-in-law has developed pneumonia and is currently on a ventilator.

Green also spent three days in hospital after testing positive.

Green, 43, wrote in the Dallas Voice that prior to his own family getting sick he had been sceptical about the pandemic calling it a 'hoax' and a 'scamdemic'.

Green wrote: "I admit I voted for Donald Trump in 2016. I admit travelling deep into the conspiracy trap over covid-19. All the defiant behaviour of Trump's more radical and rowdy cult followers, I participated in it. I was a hard-ass that stood up for my 'God-given rights'.

"In great haste, I began prognosticating the alphabet soup about this 'scamdemic'. I believed the virus to be a hoax. I believed the mainstream media and the Democrats were using it to create panic, crash the economy and destroy Trump's chances at re-election."

He added that 'believing the pandemic to be a hoax' he and his partner decided to host a party.

He told NBC News: "We just felt the worst was behind the country because everything was easy, things were reopening and none of us were experiencing any symptoms."

Green told the news outlet that as of Monday 12 of those who tested positive had recovered or were in recovery.
