Grimes says she's planning on starting a 'lesbian space comunte' following her split from Elon Musk.

The couple announced last week that they had 'semi-separated', stating they had grown apart due to the demands of the tech billionaire's work.

But the singer seems to be taking it well, joking that she's going to head up into space and start a new life.

In an email to Page Six, the 33-year-old said: "I'll be colonizing [one of Jupiter's moons] Europa separately from Elon for the lesbian space commune."

This comes just a few days after the couple confirmed they were no longer going to remain a couple and were already 'semi-separated'.

In a statement to Page Six on Friday (24 September), Musk said Grimes was currently staying with him and their son.

He said: "We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms.

"It's mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas and her work is primarily in LA.

"She's staying with me now and Baby X is in the adjacent room."

The pair had been dating since four the past three years, and welcomed their first child together last May 2020 - a son called X Æ A-Xii.

The baby was originally set to be named X Æ A-12, but they were forced to change it to something a touch more mainstream because it didn't comply with Californian law.

According to state legislation, people cannot have Indo-Arabic numerals in their names, so the singer and the billionaire couple changed it to... X Æ A-Xii.

Grimes, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher, announced the change on her Instagram account after a fan asked: "Did you change the baby name because of Californian laws? What is the baby's new name?"

To which the popstar replied: "X Æ A-Xii."

Speaking to Joe Rogan about the choice of name, Musk said it wasn't really his idea.

He said: "First of all, my partner is the one who, mostly, actually came up with the name. I mean it's just X, the letter X. And then the Æ is, like, pronounced 'ash'... yeah... and then A-12 is my contribution."

SpaceX and Tesla CEO Musk was previously married to author Justine Wilson, with whom he has five sons - twins Griffin and Xavier, 17, and triplets Damian, Saxon and Kai, 15.

He was also twice married to actor Talulah Riley, who he married in 2010 before they divorced in 2012 - only to remarry in 2013 and once again divorce in 2016.
