Grimes has revealed she was hospitalised after her appearance on Saturday Night Live last week (8 May), in an edition hosted by her partner Elon Musk.

The 33-year-old appeared on the US TV show alongside fellow pop star Miley Cyrus.

But it turns out Grimes - real name Claire Elise Bouche - suffered a panic attack following the show, and she was taken to hospital for treatment.

She shared the news on Instagram with her 1.9 million followers, posting two photos of herself and Miley in their costumes.

Grimes wrote: "Forgot to post these cuz I somehow caused myself to have a panic attack and went to the hospital yesterday which tbh was quite scary and I suppose it's a good time to start therapy.

"But nonetheless - wowwwww @mileycyrus is good live and so chill!

"So grateful to the SNL team for being so kind and letting me sneak in as princess peach and so proud of my beautiful E (which I know will upset the grimes fans so I apologize in advance) but he killed it."

Grimes appeared as Princess Peach in a Super Mario Bros-inspired sketch during her SNL appearance.

Hosting the show, her 49-year-old partner Musk revealed that he has Asperger's syndrome in his opening monologue.

He said that he was 'making history' as the first person with Asperger's to host the show.

The Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder began: "It's an honour to be hosting Saturday Night Live - I mean that. Sometimes after I say something, I have to say 'I mean that' so people really know that I mean it.

"That's because I don't always have a lot of intonational variation in how I speak - which I'm told makes for great comedy.

"I'm actually making history tonight as the first person with Asperger's to host SNL."

As the audience applauded, Musk added with a smile: "Or at least the first person to admit it."

He continued to joke that this meant he wouldn't 'make a lot of eye contact' with the cast, but was alright at 'running human in emulation mode'.

Later on in his speech he said: "Look, I know I sometimes say or post strange things, but that's just how my brain works.

"To anyone I've offended, I just want to say I reinvented electric cars, and I'm sending people to Mars in a rocket ship. Did you think I was also going to be a chill, normal dude?"
