Guy Claims He Cured His Hayfever With Stinging Nettles

He believes it tricks his immune system

If you suffer from hayfever, it probably won't surprise you that a man has gone to extreme lengths to rid himself of the symptoms.

While antihistamines and other treatments work to alleviate the sneezing, one man thinks he has an actual cure - although I must warn you, it's not for the faint-hearted.

This should probably go without saying, but we're not really sure if you should try this one at home.

Back in 2018, The Mirror reported Goran Pavlovic's advice that stinging nettles should sort you out.

And we don't mean nettle tea or nettle soup, but actually stinging yourself with the prickly leaves on purpose.

Pavlovic shared his experience on Facebook, writing: "All my life I suffered from hay fever. I pretty much choked to death every summer.

"Then, a few years ago, an old man (crazy old man according to my wife) told me to try nettles.

"Basically, as soon as the spring starts, he told me, and the first nettles sprout out, pick a bunch and sting myself with them.

"Do that once a week until the end of autumn. Apparently this would make my immune system concentrate on nettles and forget about the pollen...

"To my wife's horror and the amusement of the fellow walkers in parks and forests, I soon started the 'therapy'.

"And lo and behold it worked...I haven't had any problems with pollen for 3 years now.

"So there you have it. Just wanted to share with you my experience. Just in case someone is interested in use of herbs for medicinal purposes.

"And as the law requires, here is the disclaimer: don't do this at home."

Hmm, sounds painful. Thankfully, there's an alternative method to taming your symptoms, and this one is decidedly more appealing.

According to research (so it must be true), there's a link between the reproductive system and the nasal system - basically, sex constricts the blood vessels in the nose and eyes, causing noses to unblock and eyes to stop watering.

It's worth pointing out that the boffins down at Tabriz Medical University didn't perform any clinical tests on this, but their work was published in a serious medical journal called Medical Hypotheses.

Oh and, as the relief was specifically linked to ejaculation, this is of more use to blokes than women.

If sex isn't the answer to your problems, you could give some pollen wipes a crack. Priced at just £1 from Lloyds Pharmacy, they've been described as 'amazing'.

The handy little wipes went down a storm last summer, with one customer saying: "These are absolutely amazing! I used these last year! Must get some more, hay fever full on atm."
