TikTok user Elena (@misselenaofficial) regularly posts videos about urban legends and interesting facts - including a series about 'Things you didn't know your body could do'.
In one post, she outlines a simple trick to help unblock your nose without using any gadgets, gizmos or sprays, instead detailing a method known as acupressure.
Elena, who is based in Melbourne, Australia, says: "Did you know that you can unblock your nose naturally without using any those nose sprays?
"So, if you're feeling blocked up, here's what to do.
"Press your tongue against the roof of your mouth, like this."
She then demonstrates pushing her tongue upwards onto the roof her mouth, and holds it there.
Elena continues: "And at the same time, press down in between your eyebrows with your thumb, like this."
She shows us as she gets her thumb and raises it to her forehead, pressing the spot between her eyebrows.
In the caption, Elena adds to hold it there for approximately one minute.
She says: "This will actually make the bone in your nose [move] back and forth. It will loosen the nasal passages and clean your sinuses quickly."
Elena explains that the technique is 'only a natural remedy', advising people to seek advise from a medical professional for any 'nasal complicated issues'.
According to Study365.co.uk, it has been shown that by placing pressure on various pressure points of the body, we can 'stimulate the flow of fluid that has gotten collected', in turn helping our noses clear so that we can breathe more clearly.
The site explains: "One of the best locations where you can use acupressure for sinus issues is inside your mouth. Simply push your tongue until it is flat against the roof of your mouth and at the same time that you are doing this, push one finger against your forehead right between your eyebrows.
"Hold this pressure for about 20 seconds and you will begin to feel the relieving of pressure.
"Once you release your tongue and take your finger away you will feel some movement towards the back of your throat when the pressure buildup begins to dissipate."
Outlining an alternative approach, it continues: "If that does not seem to be working for you, alternate between pressing your tongue against the roof of your mouth and then pressing between your eyebrows without doing both at the same time.
"In acupressure, this point between your eyebrows is referred to as the Yintang acupoint where the nasion is located.
"Dr. Joseph M. Helms, author of Acupuncture Energetics: A clinical Approach for Physicians says that this 'causes the vomer bone (the bone that runs from your nasal passage to your mouth) to move or rock back and forth'.
"This loosens the congestion and causes drainage."
