A brave policewoman who was attacked by a man on drugs has shared horrific images of the injuries he inflicted on her.

Kristen Richmond, a West Virginia sheriff's deputy, posted the pictures to her Facebook account following a five-minute fight with a 21-year-old who was on drugs and hallucinating.

Richmond was responding to a call at Bethany College where she found the man who began attacking her. She released her police dog but Jackson kept on - smashing her glasses and leaving her with a number of cuts and bruises.

Sharing the images on Facebook, she wrote: "I found myself in a full out fight with a 5.11″ collegiate male athlete who was gooned up on an unknown drug. I was him and me for five minutes. During said altercation, my glasses were smashed off my face and none of my radio transmissions managed to get out.

"I managed to stay in the fight and exerting control by exchanging punches and knees with the subject.

"While fighting with this guy, he reached for my duty weapon, deadly force was warranted and it was probably getting close to my last resort. Thankfully, it did not reach that point."

She says at this point back up arrived - but that the man then started to attack them.

She continued: "The following saying comes to mind: 'Sometimes I had a bad day means that I almost didn't make it home'.

"My guys found me and my K9 engaged. If it wasn't for them intervening when they did the outcome probably would have been much worse. I am so thankful for them! They are literally the best partners I could ask for."

Before adding: "My Sergeant was also injured. He left his hospital room to come to mine and said, "I'm probably not supposed to leave my room but fuck it."

"He leaned over my bed, gave me a hug, and said, "I love ya, K-Rich!" I trust them fully and know that I never have to worry about if they're coming."

She then explained why she had shared the post, saying she hoped it would highlight what police have to face on day-to-day basis as well as showing the need for good training and for cops to bond with their partners and team.

Since choosing to share the harrowing story, Richmond has been hailed as a hero with people rushing to show their support to both her, her team and the dog. The post has been shared almost 130,000 times and liked more 170,000.

The man, who she chose not to name in the post, was arrested and now awaits charges.
