Shocking images have been shared online showing a hotel on the Costa del Sol engulfed in flames after a fire broke out in the popular holiday destination.

According to reports, smoke was visible for 20 miles after the blaze took hold of the Laguna Village, which is home to Purobeach Marbella as well as the Camuri and Claro beach clubs, near Estepona.

It has also been claimed that the blaze has hit the five-star Kempinski Hotel.

However, despite the chaotic scenes, there are yet to be any reports of causalities.

In a horrific video, Spanish tourists can be seen crying and shouting, 'My God, how awful', as the blue skies turned black over the tourist spot.

While in another, employees can be seen urging people to run to safety, shouting, "Fuera, fuera" - 'get out' in Spanish - as others rushed to get a hose to try and put out the flames.

The fire broke out earlier today at the popular tourist destination.

Watching on, a British local, who filmed the blaze as it took hold of the area, also said: "That's the end of Purobeach, everybody."

Reports from Spain stated that the fire started at around 1.45pm today (29 August), with emergency services declaring a Level One emergency shortly before 4pm.

It is understood that the fire started in a woodland area which surrounds the complex.

A spokesman for a regional emergency service confirmed: "Level One of the Emergency Forest Fire plan has been activated because of a fire in Estepona."

According to reports, the blaze also caught hold of a tiki bar with a thatched roof, causing holidaymakers and staff to flee in terror.

No casualties have, as yet, been reported.

Three helicopters and around 30 firefighters on the ground responded to the call to try and get the blaze under control.

As the operation was underway, the dual-carriageway that runs between the sea and the mountains was closed in both directions.

This is the latest tragedy to hit the region in the past week.

Earlier this month, a French holidaymaker died and ten people suffered smoke inhalation in a fire early on 21 August at the Sisu Boutique Hotel near the resort of Puerto Banus.

According to reports, about 100 guests were staying at the hotel, which is popular with British tourists.

An investigation into that fire is still ongoing.
