Amid all the doom and gloom we see every day about the coronavirus, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has shined a little light on the situation.

As we approach the Easter long weekend, many families would normally be gearing up for days of festivities.

However, because of social distancing laws, travel bans and the threat of getting the virus, many are preparing to bunker down in their homes.

While adults can grasp the concept of the outbreak of Covid-19, many kids have been worried that travel restrictions will stop the Easter Bunny from being allowed to roam the globe.

However, Ardern has weighed in on the predicament.

The New Zealand leader said: "You will be pleased to know that we do consider both the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny to be essential workers.

"But, as you can imagine at this time of course, they are going to be potentially quite busy at home with their family as well and their own bunnies.

"So I say to the children of New Zealand if the Easter bunny doesn't make it to your household then we have to understand that it's a bit difficult at the moment for the bunny to perhaps get everywhere.

"But I have a bit of an idea that maybe in lieu of the bunny being able to make it to your home you can create your own Easter hunt for all the children in your neighbourhood.

This Easter bunny is being careful.

"So, if you are one of those homes that's had a teddy in your front window maybe draw an Easter egg and pop it into your front window and help children in your neighbourhood with their own Easter egg hunt because the Easter bunny might not get everywhere this year."

Ms Ardern has been praised for giving a very human response amid the pandemic and offering a message for kids.

On March 23, New Zealand was placed into lockdown for four weeks to prevent the spread of the virus.

Schools, universities, childcare centres and all non-essential industries and services were ordered to close. Citizens have been forced to stay home unless it's absolutely necessary.

People will be allowed outside for exercise as long as they are on their own and citizens are encouraged only to interact with people they are in isolation with.
