The last known image of missing UK backpacker Amelia Bambridge, who vanished while travelling through Cambodia last week, has been shown to the media.

A photograph taken just a few hours before she disappeared has been released and shows the 21-year-old laughing and smiling on the island of Koh Rong.

Amelia has been missing for almost a week, with police squads searching the South East Asian island in a desperate bid to find her.

The young tourist's mum Linda Schultes, from Worthing in West Sussex, has now travelled to Cambodia to liaise with local police heading up the search. Amelia's brother Harry has also gone over to help.

Amelia's purple bag, which contained her phone, bank cards, and a watch, were found on the rocks by the beach, around 40 minutes from her hostel.

Authorities were alerted to her disappearance when she failed to turn up the next day and missed her return boat to the mainland on Saturday. Her passport was still at her hostel.

Speaking to the media before she left for Cambodia, Amelia's mum said: "This is very out of character, she is normally so organised.

"I don't know what to think."

According to reports, Amelia spoke to her younger sister Georgie on Wednesday, and said her trip was 'doing so much for her confidence' and that she had been having 'the best time ever'.

Speaking to Sky News, Georgie said: "She said 'everyone is so cool here' and couldn't be happier.

"She's literally wanted to go travelling her whole life. She has spent the past two years saving for it and spent the last year reading blogs of travellers, researching what she was going to do.

"She knew everything and was living out her dream - she was happy."

In a Facebook post after landing in Cambodia this weekend, Amelia's brother Harry said: "So I've landed in Cambodia, in a taxi to attempt to make the last ferry to the island which is a five hour taxi.

"I'm totally overwhelmed with everyone's support and I can't thank you all enough.

"I seriously believe there is still hope for her to be found alive."

According to reports, Cambodian police have said around 150 people are currently involved in the effort to find Amelia.

Chuon Narin told Associated Press that he was still hopeful of tracking her down, saying that several tourists had become lost only to be found in the jungle.
